Chic Haven Home of the Trendsetters

HIV Prevention Drug

I have always said, that my ultimate goal in life is to set up a clinic or home for the elderly and for people suffering from HIV/AIDS. My closet friends question my facination with this virus and my interest in research studies to develop a cure… a guy once asked me point blank, “Are you sure you don’t have IT.” I laughed out loud… I couldn’t blame him though for coming to that conclusion…I always talk about it… It’s an epidemic that shakes our very foundation.

The way I see it… it could be me suffering from the illness, it could be a family member or a close friend…. It could be anyone, no one is immune and when you read the many stories of how people got infected, you then realise that it is really a miracle that some of us are healthy. It is an issue that is close to my heart and I am praying and hoping for a cure. (just in-case you were/are wondering,  I do not have the virus neither do I personally know anyone who is infected).

I just recently read that US health regulators  approved a drug, “Truvada” to prevent HIV infection. Can I hear a “Hallelujah Somebody” in a baptist preacher voice.  According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Truvada can be used by those at high risk of infection and anyone who may engage in sexual activity with HIV-infected partners.

BBC reports that “Truvada, made by California-based Gilead Sciences, is already backed by the FDA to be taken with existing antiretroviral drugs for people who have HIV.
Studies from 2010 showed that Truvada reduced the risk of HIV in healthy gay men – and among HIV-negative heterosexual partners of HIV-positive people – by between 44% and 73%.”

This is good news. For more information, type in “Truvada” in your google search box. It’s amazing what you can learn on the internet.

Be safe, don’t share needles, and practice abstenece if you can. 🙂

Love, Chee
