Daily Food for Thought – Letting Go

While browsing through my Blackberry Messenger updates, a friend’s status read “friends become strangers, lovers become friends [and the cycle continues].” This summed up all that I was thinking about today. Letting go!

Letting go of situations, people, the past, and sometimes ourselves.

It is hard to admit that certain people or relationships cannot and will never be constants in our lives. This is simply  fact of life. Regardless of how hard we fight to stay in touch, work on strengthening relationships, or even rekindle old flames our efforts sometimes are to no avail.

By letting go of bad situations, we are able to move forward.

By letting go of people, we open the door to new – however different – and better relationships that fit into the stage in life we are in.

By letting go of the past, we are able to enjoy the present and forbid the past from determining our future. I have learned the hard way that sometimes rekindling old flames not only reconnect relationships once lost but also flares up the baggage that once led you to quench the flame in the first place.

By letting go of ourselves, we embrace hope. Hope brings about courage. We must always be prepared to let go of the life we planned in anticipation of the unknown which brings about hope!  Holding on sometimes leads to despair.

Let go, forgive, try to forget and most importantly do not look back.

Holding on does not always make you strong. The ability to let go is a true test of your strength!
